Meet Dr. Gay

Dr. Derrick Gay is an internationally recognized intercultural competency and belonging strategist. A lifetime educator, Dr. Gay is also a university lecturer, keynote speaker, writer, researcher, practitioner, and thought leader.

For over 25 years, he has led Belonging efforts in over 800 organizations around the world, combining scholarship and research with deep organizational experience to design effective strategy for schools and other organizations. Prior to consulting, Dr. Gay served as a classroom teacher (music, French, and Spanish) and senior administrator in schools around the world.

Within the international education space, he has recently delivered keynotes at AAIE (2), AFSA (2), AMISA (3), CASE, EARCOS, La Mission Laïque Française, NESA (2), NBOA, and Sesame Street, among others.

2. Intercultural Development Inventory™ (IDI)

Participant leadership capacity building begins with a deeper understanding of personal identity and worldview. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Gay, all participants will take The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and analyze results.

The IDI is the premier cross-cultural assessment of intercultural competence used by thousands of individuals and organizations to provide personalized IDI metrics to build intercultural competence to inform DEIB strategy and realize Belonging goals and outcomes.

1. Ongoing Online DEIB Capacity Building

Utilizing a case-study model, our interactive online Zoom sessions before and after the onsite instruction will serve to deepen learning and help participants with pragmatic action steps at their schools while creating a community that will help facilitate tangible, sustainable, results.

 
 

3. Onsite Instruction at Verso International School (Bangkok, Thailand)

During the two and a half days of onsite instruction at VERSO International School in Bangkok, Thailand, participants will leverage the onsite presence to process their individualized IDI results, build DEIB Inclusive Leadership capacity through guided reflection of personal background and perspectives, and discover personalized intercultural strengths and growth areas from customized IDI results. Participants will apply insights to meaningful DEIB case studies, cultivate fundamental DEIB content knowledge, and deepen inclusive leadership through curated readings, dynamic instruction, sustained reflection with customized PLC groups, and ongoing strategy sessions.

4. Private Secure Online Portal

Our private and secure online Portal serves as your hub for all things related to the DEIB Executive Leadership Cohort.

In the portal, participants will find the resource library, pages with prework and materials for each online and onsite session, Dr. Gay's DEIB Action Protocol™, reading worksheets, podcasts, the participant directory, and much more.

 

5. DEIB Case Study Strategy Guide

This reference book serves as a practical strategy guide for school leaders and their teams to mitigate and address belonging challenges.

Processing case studies throughout the year will provide muscle memory and collective tactics when DEIB issues arise at your school.

The Strategy Guide includes foundational research and models to frame conversations and inform efforts, an action framework to navigate challenging DEIB crises, a glossary of key terms, examples of strategic plans, Diversity and Inclusion statements, and common DEIB case studies for East Asia Pacific international school leaders.
